One of Special Olympics’ original sports, aquatics has been included in the Special Olympics World Games since 1968.

Special Olympics Carroll County (SOCR) offers individual events for all strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. The aquatics program is appropriate for athletes of various ages and ability levels.

As in all Special Olympics Carroll County sports, athletes are placed in divisions according to ability, age, and gender. Athletes who participate in aquatics are able to improve their overall physical fitness through training and competition. In addition to improving their own skills, athletes also experience the benefits of being part of a team.

The aquatics program also includes training and instruction for athletes who cannot swim or who are just being introduced to the water.
